Plants Of The Temperate Rainforest
Salmonberry : Salmonberry is one of the most abundant temperate rainforest plants in the Pacific Northwest Temperate Rainforest. Salmonberry is related to blackberry and raspberry, and produces an edible berry in the spring that looks like an orange-colored raspberry. The tender spring shoots can also be eaten, and have a sweet, almost candy-like, taste to them.
Fireweed: Fireweed is common in areas that have been burned or cleared, forest openings. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked, they are also very high in vitamin C.
Oxalis: Oxalis produces small, star-shaped blooms either white or pink. The leaves have three leaflets in the shape of a shamrock. This plant propagates via rhizomes, and it is a perennial, growing only to about 1-foot high. It blooms from spring through fall, and produces an oblong fruit.
The sweet gum trees roots hold the tree in place and absorb water for food. This tree is found in the Taiga as well because that biome overlaps the Temperate Forest. One of the most beautiful time of year for this tree is in Spring when clusters of flowers appear on the tree.
